I was born in South Bend, IN, and grew up on the west side of the city. I went to Holy Family for grade school. When I was in high school, my family moved to South Carolina. I went to the University of Notre Dame for my undergraduate degree.  This is my second year at St. Matt’s.

My favorite food is Mac-n-Cheese; really any kind will do, but you can’t beat Kraft!

If I could go anywhere for a vacation, I would do a tour from Seattle to Los Angeles, in a convertible!

I am from the South Bend area, growing up in Osceola and attending Queen of Peach Church (they didn’t have a school when I was a kid).  I graduated from Penn High School and Ball State University.  My husband, TJ, and I have four children.  Our daughters, Aubrey and Cassidy, both graduated from St. Matthews and are now in high school at JAHS.  Our sons, Zac and Ryan are in 6th and 1st grades at St Matt’s.

Some of my favorite things are going to Lake Michigan to watch the sunset, having Sunday breakfast with my extended family, watching my kids play sports, play their instruments, sing in the choir and act in plays.  I also love Mexican food, Chicago hot dogs and almost any kind of dessert – cookies are my favorite.

My dream vacation would be to hang out on the beaches in Fiji.

It has been my pleasure to be associated with Saint Matthew Cathedral School for nearly twenty years. Although I was born in Chicago, Illinois, my family and I moved numerous times between the mid-west and the east coast. I was education predominately in Pennsylvania. In fact I received my undergraduate degree from Immaculata University located outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

My husband and I have three exceptional children (all our children graduated from SMCS) and are the proud grandparents of four remarkable children.

This is my 22nd year at St. Matthew’s!  How time does fly!  I have taught first grade, kindergarten, and now third grade. Which is the most exciting? Hard to say!

I have two children of my own – Torie Collins who is now 30 and married, and Drew who is 27 and also married! – as well as assorted cats, dogs, and fish.  I also have three amazing (biased I know) grandchildren – Ava (4 years and Torie’s), Dana Roy (4 years and Drew’s), and Remington – 1, also Drew’s.  I’m so excited as both my 4 year old grandchildren will be attending St. Matthew Pre K for the 2017-2018 school year – Grandma will get to see them every day!

I’m looking forward to a wonderful year with your children. Thank you for entrusting them to our care.

Joshua O’Brien

7A – Literature

My name is Joshua O’Brien. I was born and raised in South Bend, Indiana. I grew up on the corner of Angela boulevard and Notre Dame Avenue where I developed a love for Our Lady’s University. Some of my earliest memories consisted of watching Saturday morning cartoons with one eye, while the other watched the streams of one way traffic. My older brother Jamie and I learned to throw footballs in our front yard with these passersby. South Quad is the”park” that my mother would take us, and Law School chili was my Father’s attempt at a home cooked meal.

I have two brilliant younger sisters, and I love to make stir fry for them (even if one is a vegetarian and the other is picky). In my free time I enjoy reading a good book in my freshly weeded garden, and playing the guitar for my fiancé.

I ran Cross Country and Track at Saint Joseph’s High School before moving on to Notre Dame. I graduated in 2012 with my BA in English and Russian. While at Notre Dame I studied abroad in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and I plan on returning there next summer for the World Cup!

This is my second year at St. Matthews, and I am grateful everyday for my supportive and persistent colleagues and my bright and (usually) funny students.

Janet Wroblewski

8A – Math

Charles Dance

8B – Social Studies

I was born in Mishawaka, Indiana where I attended kindergarten at North Side Elementary, first grade at St. Monica, and then St. Matthew in South Bend for grades two through eight. I graduated from Marian High School in 1970 and obtained a B.S. and an M.S. from Indiana University at South Bend a few years later. I am the third oldest of ten children and have six brothers and three sisters. I met my future wife while we were both students at Marian and later we married while still students in college. We have two children who also graduated from Marian High School and they currently live in the Cincinnati, OH area. My wife and I are grandparents of two boys and three girls.

I came to St. Matthew as a teacher in 1976-1977 and I first taught sixth grade for eleven years and then social studies and U.S History in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades for the last thirty years. The world has changed substantially during those thirty-seven years and so has technology. I am amazed by how much educators and students have come to rely upon the computer in the classroom as well as elsewhere. I am also surprised at how much I like trying to keep current with all the technological advances even though I don’t always succeed.

Anne Slater

I am a lifelong resident of South Bend, Indiana and currently reside in Granger with my husband Larry and our son Owen. I am the youngest of seven children.  I was born and raised on the west side of South Bend which was rich with Polish Catholic Americans and large families like mine.  Growing up, I attended St. Adalbert’s elementary school, Washington High School and then Indiana University.

I have been teaching in the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend for nineteen years and have been at St. Matthew Cathedral since 2011.  I currently teach music and PE and enjoy working with students from all the different grade levels.

In my spare time, I enjoy being with my family and friends.   Also, when I have the time I enjoy playing golf and going on long bike rides , and sitting down and learning  a new piece of music.

I have been very blessed in my life and love being a part of St. Matthew Cathedral School!

Regina Mauck

I grew up in Elkhart but I now live in South Bend.  I graduated from Saint Mary’s College in 2014 with a B.A. in Studio Art and preschool-12 grade certification in Art. I then moved to Ohio to be a member of the Lalanne Service through Teaching Master’s Program at the University of Dayton.  In this program I lived and taught high school art in Cleveland while also taking classes at UD. After completing my 2 years of service and my degree I graduated with a Master’s of Science in Education with a focus in teacher leadership and special education in 2016. I then moved back to South Bend to be closer to my family. I am starting my 4th year of teaching and  my 2nd year at St. Matthew’s.

My favorite food is any type of pasta. Right now on the top of my list are Iceland and the Netherlands. I have also always wanted to take a huge road trip around the United States.
